Drivers Fail to Maintain Their Cars

A recent survey by Sainsbury’s car insurance revealed that 21% of motorists are failing to carry out monthly maintenance on their vehicles with tyres being the least checked item. 16% of men failed to check their vehicles whereas 26% of women failed to carry out basic checks.

The survey also showed that younger drivers, 18 – 24, are more relaxed when it comes to car maintenance with 29% failing to make monthly checks while only 15% of people aged 65+ failed to check their motor vehicles.

Ben Tyte, head of Sainsbury’s Car Insurance, said: “It takes a few minutes to carry out basic checks and it will give you peace of mind that your car is in good condition and safe to be on the road.”

  1. Newrose says:

Tyre pressure check can be carried out visually and there is no excuse for doing that as oppose to checks which are carried out by mechanics. My experience has been that going to garage even for minor checks often turn out to be costly for various reasons, i only go to garage when there is no alternative.

  2. Yes it is easy to blame young drivers for most driving issues , but one major factor for not maintaining car promptly is the quality of services from garages and the prohibitive cost of them.
