David Cameron has said more needs to be done to crack down on drivers who take drugs and get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle.
In the United Kingdom alone, drugs are suspected to play part of 250 fatal accidents every year. Now the Government are looking to introduce a similar system as France and Germany where police carry out saliva tests at the roadside to detect cannabis, cocaine and other substances.
Currently, in Britain, the police don’t test for drugs at the roadside. If drug use is suspected the police check for dilated pupils and the person is asked to walk in a straight line and count to 30. If they fail then can they be taken to a custody suite to give a blood sample and be checked by the custody doctor.
