According to a recent survey by the Institute for Advanced Motorists (IAM), 82% of people now believe it is acceptable for authorities to use speed cameras to catch speeders however 45% of the respondents still feel that their purpose is not road safety, but raising revenue.
The survey showed that speed cameras are least popular in Wales, which has the highest rate of individuals caught speeding, where 32% of people think they should not be rolled out. On the other side cameras are most popular in Scotland where only 15% think they are unacceptable. In England 20% think their use is not acceptable.
Speed awareness courses are also a popular option with 72% of respondents saying that speed awareness courses are a good idea (maybe because they don’t come with points of your licence?).
In comparison 30% of respondents said speed cameras were not acceptable back in 2007.
