New research by Halfords suggest that more motorists are using mobile phones to text or to look at their social sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
The research showed an increase of 10% in drivers admitting to taking a call whilst driving and a 7% increase admitting to making a call. Halfords also says that motorists who text whilst driving is also up by a quarter on this time last year.
Many of the motorists say that use their phones in stationary traffic or at traffic lights. This is still illegal however.
Halfords say that the threat of points and a £60 fine is being “largely ignored” and that “The only way to use a mobile phone legally and drive with due care and attention is to install a hands-free device in your car.”
