A document that discusses a “European Network of Law Enforcement Technology Services (ENLETS) 2014 – 2020” has been uncovered aimed at stopping high speed chases in a safer manner.
The service would allow police to bring cars to a halt remotely. For this to happen the EU wants every car sold within the Union to feature a technology that should stop a car promptly.
The document states that “In most cases the police are unable to chase the criminal due to the lack of efficient means to stop the vehicle safely. This project starts with the knowledge that insufficient technology tools are available to be used as part of a proportionate response.”
The plans have been signed off by the EU’s Standing Committee on Operational Cooperation on Internal Security meaning senior British Home Office civil servants and police officers support the plans.
